iFun!!!!

The fourth grade students recently took advantage of our new iPad cart to review for their science test.  We played a race with answers from the study guide.  Everyone won since they were very well prepared for their science test.  We love technology!!!!!

The fourth graders experimented using spring scales to measure the amount of force needed to move a stack of books.  Then, they placed a jar lid and marbles under the stack of books.  Pulling the books again with the spring scale, they measured the amount of force now needed.  This creation of a simple machine demonstrated to students how machines can make work easier.

Fourth graders experimented with an egg and several shock absorbing materials to scientifically determine how best to protect an egg from a 2 meter drop.  We had fun (not so much the eggs) and learned a lot.

Fourth Grade Hands-On Science

Our fourth grade scientists tapped into their curiosity using science equipment and items from our classroom to investigate and compare mass and weight. They used a pan balance to identify two different items from the classroom that had the same mass.  That took a while!  They also used a pan balance to determine which combination of weights had the same mass.  They also used spring scales to determine the weight of four different objects from the classroom.  Lastly, they used hand lens' to get up close and personal with a penny and their skin.  Drawing what their skin looked like magnified many times was pretty cool!!  Stay tuned as we continue to investigate the wonderful world God made for us.

Fourth grade has gotten off to a great start!  We have welcomed four new students to our class.  I am blessed to have each and every one of them.  The students are settling into the routine of middle school well.  We have been busy enjoying the interactive science curriculum and hands on activities.  This week band and choir started.  A number of fourth graders are participating this year.  We can't wait to for their Christmas concert!
